The Division of Analytics and Surveillance (DAS) at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is in need of interns for the Summer 2018 period.
DAS’s mission is to surveil and analyze physical natural gas and electric power markets and related financial products data. They develop surveillance tools to detect potential manipulation, anticompetitive behavior, and other anomalous activity. Their staff also assists with non-public investigations of potential violations.

In particular, this position is suitable for candidates with knowledge of SAS, Python, R, or SQL, the ability to analyze and develop conclusions based on large volumes of data, and the ability to prepare analytical reports, presentations, and documents and present findings and recommendations both orally and in writing.
FERC is consistently rated highly by The Best Places to Work survey, scoring in the top 5 mid-size agencies for the past four years. DAS in particular scores even higher, reflecting a group that not only believes in their work but also in the people around them.
There are two positions to which students may apply: Economics or Energy Industry Analyst. The Economics position is for those with a background in the subject. The Energy Industry Analyst position is for those pursuing other coursework. Students may apply to both.
