AbleVets’ summer internship program is designed to provide motivated students with the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our clients and our mission to improve the lives of our nation’s Veterans and military service members.

About the Internship Program

For undergraduate students interested in technology, AbleVets’ paid summer internship will provide a wealth of personal and professional experience, including unlimited access to online technical training, executive mentorship, team-building events, and community service and outreach. Through our program you will:

  • Receive guidance and mentorship from senior technical staff
  • Work independently and with a small team to see projects through to completion
  • Gain valuable insights, skills, and career-long connections through a variety of activities
  • Apply technology to solutions that improve the lives of Veterans and service members

 

Specific responsibilities are assigned at the start of the program and may include working alongside engineers at all levels to develop mobile and web applications; test and debug code; create technical documentation; assess, design, and automate security processes.

  • Duration: Ten weeks starting in early June
  • Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
  • Work Location: Chantilly, Virginia

 

Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled or recently graduated student from an accredited four-year institution in a technical program of studies, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
  • Analytical skills and an interest in taking on business problems
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical professionals both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Able to complete a ten-week program beginning in June 2020
  • Able to work up to 40 hours per week

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • Experience in PHP, HTML/CSS/JS, React, Docker/Containers
  • Experience in or familiarity with Agile software development practices
  • Interest in the technology industry
  • Professional attitude and demeanor
  • Strong desire to learn
  • Excellent client service mindset and attitude
  • ROTC and Military Reservist students strongly encouraged to apply
