Provides supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates. Concerned with maintenance of institution security contributing to the health and welfare of the inmates and the promotion of good public relations.
Enforces rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody. From time to time, may be authorized to carry firearms and to use physical force, including deadly force, to maintain control of inmates.
During institution emergencies or other periods of heavy workload or limited staff, may be required to work long and irregular hours, unusual shifts, Sundays, holidays and unexpected overtime. Information as to operations and procedures is provided by post orders, BOP program statements, local supplements, custodial manual, internal correspondence and staff meetings. Incumbent must be flexible and have a broad knowledge base to use own initiative in the resolution of problem situations.

About FCI Waseca: The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) is a low security female institution which is located approximately 70 miles Southwest of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area. FCI Waseca is set in a rural farm community with access to highway systems that allow for convenient access to Mankato, Owatonna, Rochester, and Minneapolis/St. Paul areas.
FCI Waseca was formerly an Agricultural College owned and operated by the University of Minnesota. In 1995, the college was renovated and refurbished initially to house low security offenders. The institution continues to retain many of the original elements of the Agricultural College and its’ aesthetic appearance. FCI Waseca continues to retain a reputation for correctional excellence and professionalism.

- Work in a group home or other settings involving supervising vulnerable individuals.
- Management or supervisory work in a business or other organization that included directing the work flow and/or direct supervision of others.
- Sales work, other than taking and filling orders as in over-the-counter sales.
