ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
340B Health is a membership organization of more than 1,400 public and private nonprofit hospitals and health systems that participate in the federal 340B drug pricing program. 340B Health monitors, educates, and serves as an advocate on legislative and regulatory issues related to the federal 340B drug discount program. Under 340B, drug companies are required to give discounts to safety net providers which help fund care to populations with low incomes and those that live in rural areas. Our membership consists of a broad spectrum of hospitals, including academic medical centers, community hospitals, children’s hospitals, and rural facilities. Our Vision: A nation where hospitals and health systems fulfill their mission to provide care for patients with low income and those living in rural communicates.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
340B Health seeks a law student to work as a law clerk on a part time (20-25 hours per week) basis beginning late spring or early summer through 2021 and possibly beyond, on legal and policy issues relating to the federal 340B drug pricing program and other related issues affecting our member hospitals. The position will begin as remote but may transition to in-person at our Washington, DC office as pandemic restrictions are lifted.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
· Assist the 340B Health legal and policy team with:
o Researching and analyzing issues pertaining to the federal 340B drug discount program, and other related pharmaceutical or health care programs
o Monitoring for and summarizing legal and regulatory developments pertaining to 340B
o Helping to draft updates of member educational materials to keep hospitals abreast of issues and developments relevant to the 340B and Medicaid programs
o Assisting as needed in tracking and developing materials relating to pricing disputes and litigation relevant to the 340B program
o Assisting with creating presentations for 340B Coalition conferences, webinars, and other events
o Assisting on various legal and policy initiatives by helping to draft policy statements, comments on proposed regulations, and letters to government officials and Congress
o Attend meetings, webinars, and other policy/regulatory discussions pertaining to or impacting 340B in order to listen to and record critical information
o Assist with administrative duties as required
· Fulfill other duties as required
· Completion of at least one year of law school
o Experience working as a law clerk or paralegal is preferred
· Proficiency in computer-based legal research and other computer systems and software programs
· Strong analytical, writing, organizational and communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· A strong interest in federal health policy issues and federal health legislation is preferred.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks
· Willingness to work in a fast-paced office environment
