Brocade Studio is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Consultant (Fall Internship). This is a fully remote, paid fall internship.
Brocade Studio is a strategy, facilitation, and research consultancy that serves purpose-driven organizations (typically, nonprofits). Members of our team are based in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Richmond, and Seattle – though you could be based anywhere.
This role is ideal for young professionals looking to gain immediate and first-hand experience consulting for innovative non-profit organizations. You’ll work right alongside our team of experienced principal consultants. Don’t spend months of your life typing notes at Deloitte; join us for a fall of meaningful, hands-on work.
This role requires an average weekly time commitment of 15 hours. We’ll collaborate with you to devise a work plan that considers your skills, time, and interests – while balancing the needs of our firm and current clients.
Brocade interns are paid $15/hr. and receive coaching from our team of experienced principal consultants. We continue to work with many past Brocade interns as long-term, affiliated consultants.
Alongside our clients, we craft strategy and forward projects to change systems and increase justice. We strongly encourage applications from people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, women, and LGBTQIA+ people.
This is the work on our plate this fall. Would you be interested in helping out?
> Survey design, analysis, and presentation: This fall we’ll need to design surveys, analyze data, and present results to a number of clients; for example, we’ll work with an innovative legal justice organization focused on reproductive rights, justice, and health to survey their stakeholder. In the analysis, we will work with both qualitative and quantitative data.
> Research: Clients come to us with big questions. What other organizations are doing the work we do? (Competitor Analysis) What are other models we should consider for our programming? (Landscaping) What are our peer organizations doing that we can learn from? (Peer Interviewing) We’ll need your help on a number of research tasks, and in synthesizing that research in the form of a report, deck (powerpoint), or summary document.
> There’s always a stream of new projects that might match your interests and skills. We tend to start a few new projects every month. So, we’d be interested in other interests and skills you might have, or want to develop/improve.
What We’re Looking For
You don’t have to be all of these things. No human is. But maybe you’re some of these:
> A quick learner who is able to, with support, quickly build skills. // Our work requires us to quickly learn about a client’s field and be able to speak their language with some fluency. Additionally, we’re always challenging ourselves by exploring and building new tools for our clients. This should be more exciting than anxiety-producing.
> You’ve created a survey, analyzed the data, and presented on your findings. Maybe you’ve even learned a few tricks in Excel or Google sheets.
> Curious, seeks out ideas, asks goods questions. Our work involves a good deal of exploration.
> Personable! Our small team loves working with one another and we love our clients. Truly. We want to love working with you, and we want our clients to enjoy working with you. Practically, this means that we could set you up to help us interview someone (a client stakeholder) and we wouldn’t sweat it for a second.
> A solid writer. Not overly academic. With support and edits, your copy is crisp.
> May have some content knowledge around, or background in, any of the fields in which our roster of clients operate. This is nice, but by no means necessary. This fall this list includes: art museums, legal aid/justice, personal transformation and racial justice, craft businesses, city governments, human-centered design, economic development, youth education. Or maybe you’re new to all of those fields.
What You’d Do
We don’t believe in prescriptive, one-size-fits-all roles. We’ll collaborate with you to devise a work plan that considers your skills, time, and interests – while balancing the needs of our firm and our clients.
That said, your fall would include:
> Working with one or more of the firm’s principal consultants as a partner on one of the aforementioned projects – primarily, survey analysis and research tasks.
> You working from the glow of your laptop, wherever you happen to be.
> Flexible hours, but some daytime meetings (we’ll work with your schedule).
> Regular coaching from one (or more!) of Brocade’s principal consultants.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. This posting will be taken down once the position is filled.
