Job SummaryCalPortland is seeking a summer intern for the Construction Group. This internship is ideal for a student interested in construction management, mechanical or civil engineering. This individual will have the opportunity to work on a variety of heavy civil projects such as road, bridge, disaster recovery, etc., performing tasks in all phases of the project (i.e., bid/estimates, field work, documentation, compliance reporting, etc.)ResponsibilitiesComplete Safety and MSHA training and any other site/job specific required trainingCarry-out and practice all Safety training and Company policies in the CalPortland workplaceLearn about all aspects of the operation, to include mining, processing, quality control and heavy equipment repairAssist in routine housekeeping and maintenance of the facilitiesComplete summer-long Capstone project, to possibly involve research, involvement with plant personnel, interface with other CalPortland departments, outside government agencies, task training, data collection and reporting, etc.Learn about other CalPortland departments and interface as required  Attend Summer Intern Orientation event at Corporate Headquarters in Glendora, CAPresent Capstone Project Summary to Management StaffPerform plant tasks as assignedEducationCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or other Engineering related discipline.Requirements/QualificationsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Good attendance and punctualAbility to work a flexible schedule (night work may be required)Ability to work independently and in a team settingAbility to lift at least 50 lbs. and perform physical labor in inclement weatherMust possess valid driver’s license, insurance and be insurable to drive company vehiclesPreferred:Experience with equipment management softwarePrior experience or internship in construction or building materials industryCompensationBenefitsAt CalPortland, we’re proud to offer a comprehensive, competitive benefits package that provides health and financial support to our most important resources: our employees. Your benefits are an important part of your overall compensation at CalPortland.
