Structural Engineer II, Department of General Services, Capital and Energy Division
What we’re looking for:
We want a motivated candidate to make our Department in Baltimore City Government stand above the rest. The Capital Projects and Energy Division of General Services is responsible for design and construction in many of the City of Baltimore’s buildings. Our scope can be as simple as reconfiguring an office space or as complex as building a new facility. We have architects and engineers on staff who either do the actual design or select and supervise outside design professionals for larger projects. We provide a package of services tailored to the requirements of the client agency including all phases of design and construction from concept to punch list.
The Structural Engineer will join a diverse and dynamic team of professionals in the Capital Projects and Energy Division that will address a wide variety of construction and compliance specifications with the City. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of reviewing designs and plans against structural engineering standards and policies, managing consultants, and advising on building construction.
What you would be doing:
Conduct and coordinate site visits to develop scopes of work. Review and evaluate design proposals, engineering plans, designs and specifications for compliance with structural engineering standards, policies, technical requirements, and City, State and Federal codes.
Manage design consultants’ tasks. Review and process payment applications.
Structural Compliance (15%):
Perform on-site assessments and examine structural systems of city buildings to improve structural integrity and life/safety system concerns.
Regulatory Compliance (15%)
Develop structural engineering plans, specifications and estimates for in house engineering of small capital projects or maintenance projects. Apply for building permits as required.
Expense Management (5%)
Prepare Expenditure Authorization Request (EAR) for professional services tasks
Assist Contract Administration personnel in preparation of bid documents including design drawings and contract specifications for construction projects to be put out to bid.
Assist Contract Administration personnel in preparation of RFPs to be advertised for selection of outside design consultants and ESCO consultants/contractors.

This role requires operational leadership as we improve Baltimore City Capital and Energy Division of General Services. The best candidate will bring a knowledge base of Engineering, Construction, Maryland State laws, local rules and regulations.

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Bachelor degree in Structural Engineering
Experience: 5 years’ experience in design of structural system in vertical construction
Equivalencies: An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications: A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent out-of-state driver’s license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.
Preferred Licenses: Professional Engineer (PE) from the State of Maryland with registration as a Structural Engineer.

The examination will consist of a rating of their education, training, and experience as presented on their application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.
