The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington D.C. offers internships to highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are looking to enhance their understanding of Iraq and regional politics of the Middle East. The internship program offers students the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of US-Iraqi relations, improve their research and analytical skills, work with global perspectives in real-time media coverage, and gain professional experience in communications and international relations.
Media Briefs- Interns are expected to assemble a daily news brief that includes media coverage on Iraq and important regional topics in the Middle East.
Event/Site Visits- Interns will have the opportunity to attend think tank events, congressional hearings and academic speeches that relate to US-Iraqi foreign policy, national security policy-making, international diplomacy, and regional issues in the Middle East. Interns will be expected to provide reports on these events.
Research- Interns will assist with political, economic and cultural research projects that support Embassy initiatives and programs.
-Strong academic background (International Relations or Political Science concentration strongly preferred)
-Strong interest in US foreign policy, US-Iraq relations and Middle Eastern geopolitics
-Ability to navigate and analyze global media perspectives
-Exceptional writing, research and communication skills
-Arabic skills are desirable
Internship Terms and Time Commitment
We are currently seeking interns for the 2021 fall semester (September – December).
Positions are available on a full or part-time basis with a minimum of two day commitment per week. We acknowledge academic priorities and will work with students to accommodate their schedules.
