The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a water quality analyst for our Pocatello Regional Office. This position is responsible for providing support for regional surface water program activities. This role will also assist with integrated report assessments, generate and analyze total maximum daily load (TMDL) data, review environmental permits, and work with state and local organizations to plan, evaluate, and implement watershed restoration and TMDL projects.
Wage Range: $24.78 – $26.50 Hourly
Example of Duties:
- Develop and support watershed management/total maximum daily load plans (TMDL), and TMDL 5-year reviews.
- Work with basin and watershed advisory groups, soil conservation districts, municipalities and industry and stakeholders to carry out DEQ’s statutory responsibilities.
- Support and develop implementation plans, strategies, and projects for watershed restoration and TMDL plans.
- Coordinate, collect and disseminate water information with stakeholders, local, state and federal partners.
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field OR any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year bachelor’s degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis and preparation of reports and written documents for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.
At least four (4) years’ experience managing and implementing, projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental, regulatory, or administrative in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
Possession of a master’s degree in any of the above fields AND at least two (2) years’ professional experience managing and implementing, or overseeing projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):
- DEQ 3123 Interagency Coordination: Requires at least two (2) years of experience leading committees or work groups involving federal, state, or local government representatives to collaboratively plan and implement statewide activities; or three (3) years of experience successfully implementing interagency collaborative projects involving the collection and management of water quality data.
- DEQ 3136 Scientific/Technical Report Preparation and Presentation: Requires at least four (4) years of experience preparing scientific or technical reports and at least two (2) years of experience presenting scientific, technical, or regulatory information to students, the general public, local governments, and professional organizations.
Desirable Qualifications: Two (2) years of full-time work experience in surface water quality such as reviewing, designing or implementing monitoring projects and quality assurance project plans; watershed, riparian area, aquatic habitat, water quality or environmental assessments, pollutant sources assessments, including municipal, industrial and storm water point sources and non-point source activities, such as forestry, mining, agriculture and grazing.
