The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform laboratory-based research and development of electrochemical systems and processes in the area of energy conversion. The successful candidate will establish a rational design and development of efficient electrocatalytic platforms for the direct conversion of renewable electricity into chemical bonds (electro-synthesis, electro-catalytic synthesis).
While the candidate is expected to work independently, they are also expected to be a strong asset to an established R&D team to achieve specific project/program targets and goals on multiple projects within the same area of study. The candidate must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers. The position entails writing scientific manuscripts for journal publication, project reports, and proposals as well as preparing presentations of research results and presenting them at national/international conferences/workshops/meetings. The candidate is also expected to maintain currency in relevant scientific literature, meet ES&H goals, demonstrate a strong commitment to safe laboratory practices, and perform all work in an environmentally safe and compliant manner.

Work Location: Idaho Falls, ID (IRC 9X80’s Schedule)
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related program. Degree must be conferred at appointment begins and must be within the previous five years.
- The candidate must have demonstrated analytical experience in in-situ/operando surface enhanced spectro-electrochemistry (SEIRAS/SERS) and materials surface characterization (XPS, XRD, SEM).
- The candidate also must have proven experiences in fundamental understanding of interfacial processes and reaction trajectories, preparation of electrocatalysts and optimization of experimental set up are required.
- Knowledge and a working background in electrochemical processes in non-aqueous systems are strongly desired.
- Additional experiences/skills in either electrophoresis or computational/theoretical modeling are desired.
