The Innovation Lab at La Jolla Country Day School, having just completed its fifth year in existence, values its “startup atmosphere” where the entire team of seven experienced educators and industry professionals is key in redesigning the K-12 education experience. Do you love to mentor people and share incredible resources with them?The Innovation Lab at La Jolla Country Day School is seeking a highly talented educator and digital developer to expand our students’ ability to create, particularly using digital tools and computer science. Our program provides access to all of the resources an educator can need including a VR Lab, a prototyping Lab, a creative Studio space, as well as a student Venture Capital Fund for ambitious student projects. Therefore, we need an educator who is capable of helping students identify meaningful projects, teaching the skills needed to achieve ambitious goals, managing the projects, and showcasing work to the greater educational community.We take a modern constructivist approach to education that blends concepts and theory into project-based learning experiences that allow students to create original and meaningful work. Our educators are a blended team with various expertise but who are all great coaches to students rather than sages on a stage delivering content. This is particularly important when our students of all ages connect with outside organizations and companies to transfer their knowledge to work on unique “real-world” problems. ResponsibilitiesThe expertise that you will need to bring to the Innovation Lab at La Jolla Country Day School is in digital design and development. Your personal expertise could be in, for example, mobile app development, product design, data visualization, or another broadly computer science-related field. You should have a portfolio of example solutions that you have developed individually and as a supervisor/educator.This is a full time position teaching, project managing and mentoring students on a variety of topics as well as collaborating with faculty, staff and community members on department and organizational projects. Experience educating at middle school, high school or undergraduate level.Proven ability to deliver high quality projects.Beneficial QualificationsExpert level skills in a wide variety of design software and programming languages.Willingness to learn other design or engineering skills outside of the digital realm.A network in the K-12 education field or another industry that can be leveraged for the benefit of student learning.Experience sharing your work to broad audiences.The ideal candidate is committed to anti-racist education and culturally responsive instructional practices.
