The engineering technician – gas distribution, provides technical assistance in the planning, cost estimating, design, coordination and construction of gas and/or electric distribution facilities following established engineering principles, company policies, and procedures. The engineering technician – gas distribution applies established engineering standards and practices to plan, design, and manage projects and provide technical expertise in a limited number of technical areas such as transmission and distribution design, engineering and construction codes and standards, and system analysis. The engineering technician – gas distribution handles communication with external customers, prepares and administers standard service agreements, and administers company policies. The engineering technician – gas distribution participates and provides leadership in special projects, company-wide functions, and activities and process changes.Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)Provide technical assistance and services, following established engineering principles to distribution engineering and operation groups for projects involving the planning, design, cost estimating of extensions, upgrades and relocations of the distribution system and for the maintenance of the distribution and transmission systems.Assists in the management, coordination and completion of special projects, company-wide functions and activities, technical studies, and investigations of system problems.Assists in technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, construction contracts, cost tracking and cost projections.Handle communications and correspondence with external customers. Prepare and administer standard service agreements and administer company policies and procedures.Provide technical assistance in data collection and analysis. Conduct technical studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports.Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.Position is subject to possible after-hours call outs.Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the natural gas transmission and distribution system.
