Manager – Assistant to Water Department Superintendent
Full-Time, Year-Round, Benefited Position
The Town of Norwell (Norwell, MA) is seeking a Manager who will assist the Superintendent of the Water Department in carrying out assigned projects and tasks. Performs administrative, supervisory, and physical work in the planning, directing and managing of all treatment facilities, water treatment systems, equipment and structures, including but not limited to well pumping stations, chemical feed systems, hydro pneumatic valves, monitoring instrumentation and controls high lift pumps, pressure filter vessels, analytical equipment, personal computers, SCADA software and equipment. The Water Treatment Manager is responsible for the maintenance and operation of one iron/manganese treatment facility, two corrosion control treatment facilities, ten groundwater pumping stations, three water storage tanks and one booster pumping station. Assigns duties and supervises employees engaged in treatment facility maintenance and operations. Troubleshoots and adjusts process chemistries, mechanical and electrical systems and maintains a system of quality assurances to produce water that is in compliance with all federal and state drinking water regulations and standards. Recommends Departmental policies and procedures; implements projects and directives of the Water Superintendent.
Annual Salary: Annual salary is anticipated to start between $68K up to $75K, DOQ. Non-union positon with additional position wage salary steps for 4% plus annual increase each year.
A Bachelors’ degree in environmental, civil, mechanical or chemicals engineering or other science discipline is required. Construction Management experience desirable. Supervisory experience in water treatment systems a plus. Any combination of education and work experience may be considered. The individual must be able to work both at a desk with proven expertise in MS Office/database/spreadsheet programs as well as outside at Town Water department construction and watershed properties. Summer experience working in carpentry and basic construction may be helpful. A valid Class D Massachusetts License with proof of safe driving history is required and must be retained as a condition of employment.
Required Licenses: The incumbent will have the opportunity to take classes for a Massachusetts Grade 3T and 2D Drinking Water Supply Facilities Operators License, as issued by the Massachusetts Board Certification of Drinking Water Supply Facilities Operator’s (licenses required within 3 years of employment).
