AGA is looking for a technically inclined student to join its Safety, Operations, Engineering, and Security Services (SOES) team for the 2024 summer internship program. The intern for this position should expect to learn about the natural gas distribution system including topics of pipeline and worker safety, renewable energy and efficiency, security, and more. Our intern will assist the SOES team by providing technical support for various projects that span topics like pipeline safety and operation guidance, information sharing initiatives, industry standards, reports and technical papers.
AGA professional staff provide mentoring to help you develop essential skills for the modern professional environment. Our office has state-of-the-art technology and is just a short walk from US Capitol building. Successful participation will be the highlight of young person’s resume.
Responsibilities encompass the following:
- Assist staff executives by compiling data and case studies for use in various committee projects. These projects include whitepapers, webinars, infographics/one pagers, technical guides.
- Conduct an alignment analysis between an existing technical survey and industry safety elements.
- Develop process improvement solutions and enhance work product tracking for a large technical committee.
- Create and maintain a national database of renewable energy projects, including project descriptions.
- Map out industry standards (e.g., API, ANSI, NACE) with relevance to pipeline safety regulations and AGA technical committee work. Systemize ownership of, and notification to, AGA staff when industry standards are updated or incorporated by reference.
- Develop a tracking process for industry studies.
- Analyze, summarize, and create a high-level overview past of internal surveys.
- Attend one in-field ride-along or site tour with a local distribution company (Washington DC or Baltimore) and one longer field trip to a member’s offices in Philadelphia.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Applicants should be engineering, science, math or other technical field majors with excellent research and communication skills, and experience with Microsoft Office. Experience with SQL, Access, or other databases is preferred.
